In The Strength Of The Lord

Psalms 71:16: I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only.

There is an immeasurable difference between what a believer and an unbeliever can accomplish. If you are a believer who is not seeing God accomplish things through you that amaze you, you may not have your eyes open. You are simply not aware of the resource that you have. You are not attempting what He wants you to attempt. You have not made yourself available to Him. Sometimes we need to look backward at the steps the Lord has ordered for us. Looking forward we might only be able to see one step at a time. Looking backward we can see countless steps that we have taken with the Lord and for Him. Looking backward we can see things that only HE could have accomplished. The name Wonderful will be more than a name for us, it will be a PERSON.

In addition to learning about the power of God at work in us and through us by looking backwards, we can learn something else. Strewn among the amazing things that God has wrought will be disasters that happened when we did not make ourselves available to Him. The disasters will be the results of the times we were disobedient or presumptuous. It should be evident that they were OUR failures and not God*s. We can acquire an incredible mass of evidence of God*s strength and our own weakness. We can learn when we were in the will and strength of the Lord and when we were out of them or even against them. Seeing what He can accomplish through us should put us in a greater awe of Him.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon:

Our strength for labour is hidden even from ourselves, until we venture forth to fight the Lord*s battles, or to climb the mountains of difficulty.

An important thing to remember is that God DOES NOT transform our lives to make us proud. He does not do it to elevate us above other believers. He always and only does it to make us humble and dependent upon Him. It ought to produce in us deep gratitude. I trust these scriptures will help us to know what a wonderful resource is available to us in our God.

Ephesians 6:10: Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
